Start eyeing-up the stock price movements of Seattle-based Loudeye Corp. [LOUD]. Loudeye is a digital music provider that boasts a very impressive array of products, services, and qualities, including: being the industry's foremost provider of digital files; having the world's largest commercial music archive in .WAV format (over 4.6 million songs); having the most scalable and advanced media operations facility in the industry; having the industry's leading private labeled digital music solutions; having a dominant digital music samples service ( to the tune of one billion music samples online last year ); a piracy protection service involved in protecting over 75,000 digital entertainment titles (far more than anyone else) and at 99% effectiveness; and, boasting the first wireless digital music services (which were provided to AT&T Wireless [T] and Nokia [NOK]). In Q4 2004, Loudeye announced that it will be providing digital media and content management services to the Music Choice music network. Earlier this year, it announced that its OD2 services have launched a customized digital music store for Migros Electronics, one of Switzerland's largest retailers.

Earlier this year, the company appointed Michael A. Brochu as president and CEO. Brochu has formerly acted as president and COO of Sierra On-Line Inc., and during that tenure he led Sierra's better-than-300% growth in revenues which culminated in the sale of Sierra On-Line to CUC International for $1.1 billion in 1996. Brochu is convinced that Loudeye "has developed a unique position" in the "transformative shift affecting the global digital media" world that shall "help create value for retail partners, content owners, consumers, and our stockholders."

This former financial advisor is likewise convinced. The company's products and services are strong, and these things reflect a clear focus that doesn't have the company jam spread too thin. It is in one of the right industries at the right time. Now it is captained by an experienced and proven profitability-maker in that industry. The free cash flow reported by the company has been starting to look a little sexier in recent times, too.

For investors who like tech stocks and are not adverse to some wild price fluctuations and some calculated risk while seeking long(er)-term aggressive growth, this is a stock to buy now. I can loudly foresee the digital "pop" coming for Loudeye.

Turning from the digital to the physical...what's that saying about the value of real estate? It comes down to location, location, location. Delta Petroleum [DPTR] is an independent oil and natural gas exploration and production company based in Denver, CO that has holdings in a lot of the potentially valuable real estate. Its claim-stakes are found in the Wind River, the Piceance, the Denver-Julesburg, the Louisiana, and the South Texas Basins. Also significant are its offshore holdings in California near Santa Barbara and its half-interest and operations in approximately 200,000 acres of the Columbia River Basin, prospectively valuable areas as sources of fresh oil reserves. In addition to its significant land holdings, Delta spent the last couple of years, from 2002 to now, acquiring the oil and gas assets of Castle Energy and Alpine Resources.

Within the last year to two years, Delta has vastly increased its total capital expenditures (in fact, from Q2 of 2003 through Q2 of 2004, capital expenditures increased more than tenfold). While this sharp spike in "speculative" cash layout might reasonably throw up red flags to many potential investors, this writer in particular does not think that this activity need be as much cause for concern as for portfolio consideration. To this former financial advisor's eyes, these expansion activities are likely a sign of great growth and profitability to come. For one thing, Delta's net tangible asset amounts are way, way up in that same time. For another thing, the amount of shares of stock sold by the company in that time sailed beyond the empyrean compared to what it had been, while the company's borrowings weren't inordinately increased . The company is finding ways of generating capital flow, and its officers and management are very confident about the effort- -they own 43% of the company's stock at the time this story is written. Its resources and its strategic positions for future exploration and development of oil reserves make it look like it could be long-term rockin'-and-rollin', especially since long-term there is little hope of oil prices falling back to and remaining at what they once were in the glory days.

But here is perhaps the most salient point for investment consideration: Alternative energy is getting serious interest and backing from investors and potential developers at long last. Analysts have estimated that already by 2013, the alternative energy sector will have risen from its present $13 billion business to being a $92 billion business. Delta's stakes in natural gas should allow it to be in position to make the transition from the dinosaur economy of fossil fuel dependence to the New Economy of lush, green alternative (to oil, that is) energy givers without it- -or its shareholders- - suffering future shock (natural gas futures are now, overall, double their value of the late 1990s).

What exactly is the Stock Market? It is a great prepared technique in which anybody in addition to everybody may sometimes acquire as well as market the stocks and options or explains to you

dems_stock_market_bloomberg by furiousjethro

We have all seen the movies where about 1000 guys in suits are screaming "SELL, SELL, SELL" this is how we picture the stock exchange. Well before you go to Wall Street and start screaming and selling your stocks, there is an interactive web based stock market game you can play to gain experience on stock trading. The game is called Virtual Stock Exchange and you can find it on the web at (http://vse.marketwatch.com).

To play Virtual Stock Exchange you must first register on the site, which is quick and easy. Once registered you can choose many options of game play, you can just simply join a game that is already in progress or you can create your own or wait to be invited to a specific game. With all the options it gives the game some flare, you can join with your friends and play a private game and see who has the best trading skills. You also can join a generic game and see if you can beat all the other online players, some of them are pretty crafty and do quite well.

When you start a game depending on which option you choose you are given some start up capitol by Virtual Stock Exchange. You then need to start buying stocks, it's a pretty straight forward process, you type in the stock symbol (or the name of the company you want) and then click on GO. It then brings you to the buying process which has many options that I don't really know much about, Google better watch out because I will find out soon enough what the difference in the pricing types are (Market, Limit, and Stop). Once you purchase your stock then you just have to wait and see if your stock goes up or down. Buy low and sell high is how I have been working my game but I am in fifth place out of ten friends so I don't know if my strategy is working so well.

Other than buying and selling stocks on the game there is a portfolio interface that allows you to see all the stocks you own, what you bought them for, what their current value is, how much you have of the stock, how much gain or loss you have made on the stock, and the equity you are invested in each stock. This game is very addicting I want to beat my friends and it gives me the idea maybe one day I can take on Wall Street, well maybe not since I don't have (10,000,000) in start up capitol the game gives you.

The Virtual Stock Exchange also gives you a research option where you can learn more information about how to trade. It gives you a load of information about different types of trading, what the best trade methods are, what all the extra things are that go with trading like the commission. It is just a fun place to learn about trading stocks.

Overall the web interface is good and easy to use, trading does take some time, and trades don't post for about 15 minutes. Not sure if that is how the real stock market works or not, but that seems like a long time to wait, the stocks continue to fluctuate as you wait for the trade to be made. I have a lot of fun playing this game with my friends and family, it's a good way to kill some time or just to take a break every now and then to see how you are making out in the game. It's very realistic and hard, I have been playing for a month now and have seen minimal gains normally staying just above even. I am not sure how the pros do it but even with my 10 million dollars I have just made a few thousand dollars.

I think this would be a great game for college students studying to be stock brokers. It is tied into the actual market and shows potential real life gains and losses, it would be a good way to get them some experience at no cost. I am sure there are some falsities about the game but if you just want to have some fun and try your luck at the stock market this is the way to do it without risking your life savings.

I used to play an old text based game called Inside Trader on the old Apple II computer and I loved it so I started to find more realistic updated version of the game and The Virtual Stock Exchange seems to be the best. It is very fun and gives you plenty of good information to try out and see if you have the potential to make some money on the market.

Go ahead give The Virtual Stock Market a chance, who knows maybe you will learn enough to go for the real thing. When you are a millionaire remember who got you into the Virtual Stock Exchange!

Precisely what is this Wall street game? It can be an structured system where by any individual in addition to everybody could sometimes purchase as well as market his or her stocks and shares or perhaps stocks

Invest in Family by Salon de Maria

One of the stock investing terms that you are likely to hear regularly is "valuation." Stock valuation is something that many investors look at when deciding what investments to make. Simply put, stock valuation is a measure of how much a stock is worth. A lot of the time, stock valuation is done in comparison to price. It is important to note that stock valuation and price are not necessarily the same thing.

Valuation v. price

Just because a stock has a certain price, does not mean that it is worth that much. The efficient market theory of valuation does posit that if a stock exchange trades at a high volume, and is organized well, the price will closely mirror the valuation. But this is not always true. Sometimes price is too high (over valued or undersold) or too low (under valued or oversold) for the true value of a stock.

There are psychological factors at play as well. As you know, the current economic climate makes it very difficult to predict the stock market. And swings in price are common as investors gain confidence or lose confidence in a stock or a sector. Indeed, these times can make it very hard for stock price to adhere closely to valuation.

Discounted cash flow theory of stock valuation

The most widely accepted theory of stock valuation (and there are many) is that of discounted cash flow. Discounted cash flow takes into account the issues of risk and other possible issues on future earnings. Discounted cash flow insists that there should be an accounting made for the time value of money, and it takes away risk from the value. This allows the investor to get a more accurate view of how much a stock is worth.

Buying stocks with good valuation

It is best practice to buy stocks with good valuation. This means that you want to invest in stocks that have a valuation that is close to the stock price. It is best if you can get a stock that is under valued. That way you will get it at a good price. And when the price finally catches up with the valuation, you will find that you have made a tidy profit.

Have People Ever Regarded Seeking Your Hand At Trading Options

July-13-2009-trade by MyTradingCareer

I believe that stock trading is the greatest business one can get into:

It's a level playing field. The market does not care about your race, gender, age, or nationality. It does not care about your background, education, whom you know, or what you think. It does not care where you are. It does not care, period.

The market is an endless opportunity. It's always been there and will always be there - as long as there is fear and greed. Nobody can take it away.

Your life does not depend on anybody. Nobody can fire you. You don't have to ask for permission to trade. You set your own hours and take vacations as you please.

There are few barriers to entry: trading capital and skill level. Other than that, all you need is a passion for trading, a powerful computer, and a fast Internet.
But you must treat trading as a business.

Amateurs focus on stock picks. Successful traders focus on the system. The key is the ability to produce profits consistently over time. A good trading system should include at least three key components:

1) Stock selection;

2) Portfolio management;

3) Emotion control.

Stock Selection

The market is too big for anybody to be equally good at everything. Find a niche that best fits your style and get good at it.

No system works 100% of the time. The market is an equal opportunity mechanism. It favors different styles at different times. All you need to do is wait for your turn and act decisively when it comes.

Portfolio Management

Trading capital is the lifeblood of your business. Stocks are your inventory. You turn over the inventory for a profit. Lose your trading capital - lose your business.

The overriding goal of portfolio management is capital preservation. You should expect to sustain losses as part of doing business. But no one position should hurt you to the point that it puts you out of commission. Your system should incorporate position size / number of positions, loss limits, and risk/reward ratios.

Emotion Control

It's not the stock that makes you money, it's what you do with it. Your worst enemies are inside you: fear, greed, doubt, and hope. Gains will make you overconfident and careless while losses can paralyze or drive you to desperate steps. Have a way to control your emotions. Maintain poise and detachment under most circumstances.

Like with any business, your success or failure in trading will depend on your skill level and how much effort you are willing to put into it. There are no short cuts.
